Terms and Conditions

Charges

Whilst the Drovers’ Tryst is non profit making we have to cover the costs of running the Drovers’ Tryst. There is, therefore, an admin fee of £7 per adult on all walks regardless of the duration of the walk. Children under the age of 16 are exempt from this admin charge.

Refunds

Please note that Booking Fees are non-refundable after 1st October 2010
On walks for which minibus transport is included walkers may choose not to travel on the minibus but no refund or price reduction will be given
Charges for the Hairy Coo Mountain Bike Challenge, the St Fillan’s Mountain Bike Challenge, other activities and social events are non-refundable, except at the Committee’s discretion.

Risks and responsibility

The organisers of the Drovers’ Tryst recognise that hill walking is an activity with the danger of personal injury. Participants in the Drovers’ Tryst should be aware of this and accept this risk and be responsible for their own actions.

Programme changes

Walks and other events may be cancelled due to weather conditions or other circumstances beyond the control of the organisers. Alternative walks will be offered wherever possible.

Young People and Vulnerable Adults

The nature of hill walking potentially involves leaders or other participants in providing close assistance to others. For everybody’s protection those people classified as ‘vulnerable adults’ or young people under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an appropriate carer or responsible adult. No special arrangements are available to provide independent supervision for vulnerable people, and the accompanying carer takes full responsibility for them. The carer or parent is best placed to judge the capability of their charges.
We do ask that you only bring children on a walk if you are confident that they will be able to complete it comfortably. At all times, children must be accompanied by an appropriate adult who must take full responsibility for them.

Other Important Information

Walk grading

Walks have been graded in order that you can select walks suitable for your level of fitness. Descriptions are included on the website which give details of altitude, distance and terrain. Our aim is for everyone to enjoy the walks they have selected. Selecting appropriate walks will enable you to get the most pleasure and satisfaction from the Drovers’ Tryst – and leave you some energy for the evening events!

Walk Leaders

All walk leaders and their assistants are experienced and knowledgeable volunteers. Please use them as a source of information and follow their instructions.

Equipment

The majority of walks require full hill walking gear including boots, waterproof jacket and over trousers, hat, gloves, spare fleece, spare food and water. You may also wish to bring walking poles, binoculars and a camera.

Walk numbers

For reasons of both safety and comfort there are limits and maximum numbers are clearly indicated. Pre-booking is therefore essential.

Dogs

In common with other similar events and in consideration for others, dogs are not allowed (guide dogs excepted).

Smoking

Please do not smoke on walks, both out of consideration to others and also to avoid any undue risk to others

Medical

Any relevant medical conditions should be advised to the organisers and to the walk leaders before each walk as many will be going into remote areas where assistance is not immediately forthcoming. Any information will be kept in strictest confidence. You should also have next of kin details in an easily accessible place on your person during the walk (or ICE as one of your contacts in your mobile phone).
Walk Leaders will be carrying First Aid Kits.

Insurance

You are strongly advised to check that you have adequate personal accident insurance.

Meeting Point and Drovers’ Tryst Base

The meeting point for all walks will be the restaurant at the Crieff Visitor Centre (at the south end of Crieff on the Muthill Road) – not to be confused with the Tourist Office which is on the High Street. The Visitor Centre has a restaurant, a range of shops and an excellent Drovers’ Exhibition.

Car Parking

Car parking will be available free of charge in a designated area of the car park at the Crieff Visitor Centre.

Refreshments

For most walks you should provide your own packed lunch. There may be opportunities to obtain refreshments after the walks at local establishments and before 5.00pm from the Crieff Visitor Centre. Complementary tea and coffee will also be available at the start of most walks from the Crieff Visitor Centre.
