A rough walkers’ path then twists over the ridge in a north easterly direction taking in Beinn nan Eachan, Meall Garbh and finally the rocky summit of Meall nan Tarmachan.  The final descent is by a steep grassy slope back to the starting point.

BEINN DORAIN AND BEINN AN DOTHAIDH

Monday October 10th  - Extra Hard
Beinn Dorain is one of the most familiar mountains in Scotland with its striking cone-shaped profile viewed either from the A82 between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy or from the West Highland Railway.  It is a great viewpoint with the possibility of views ranging from Ben More to the Paps of Jura and Ben Nevis.  From Bridge of Orchy the route follows the south bank of Allt Coire an Dothaidh to the col between the two mountains.  The ridge to the south to the summit of Ben Dorain is a mixture of slabby rocks and a grassy slope.  After returning to the col Beinn an Dothaidh is reached by ascending north north east before the descent back down to Bridge of Orchy.

SCHIEHALLION VIA GLEN MORE

Tuesday October 11th  - Extra Hard
Join James Bussey, a former member of the John Muir Trust’s Land Staff on Schiehallion, to climb this iconic mountain using an unusual and interesting route. Schiehallion is one of Scotland’s best known mountains because of its distinctive conical shape and its position at the very heart of the Highlands.  It was the location of experiments in the eighteenth century to determine the earth’s mass which led to the first mapping of contours.  The route follows Glen More around the south side of the mountain before ascending the steep westerly ridge and descending via the whaleback ridge.

BEN LUI AND BEINN A CHLEIBH

Wednesday October 12th  - Extra Hard
Ben Lui is one of the most attractive mountains in the Southern Highlands.  By virtue of its height it stands high above its neighbours, and its splendid shape is unmistakable.  The traverse to Beinn a’ Chleibh is straightforward and enables two fine Munros to be climbed. From a car park in Glen Lochy the river is either forded or a nearby bridge crossed. A path climbs south east into Fionn Choirein and up to the col at its head.  From there the ridge to the north east takes you to the summit of Ben Lui and, retracing your steps back to the col, the route south west takes you to the summit of Beinn a’Chleibh

BEN MORE AND STOB BINNEIN

Saturday October 15th  - Extra Hard
This is a strenuous but exhilarating walk taking in two of the best known and most popular Munros in the Southern highlands.  It is a walk with superb views.  From a good track up Benmore Glen you climb steep grassy slopes to reach the 850m bealach between the two mountains.  A well worn path along the ridge takes you up firstly south, up 300m to the summit of Stob Binnein, then back to the bealach and 300m up again to Ben More.  Descent is by a path down the unrelentingly steep north-west shoulder of Ben More, dropping 1,000m in height in only 2,000m of distance.
